As part of the SVP Summer 2026 Volunteer Program, students of BVS Parsi High School participated in two enriching volunteer and experiential learning batches at the Karachi Institute of Kidney Diseases Association (KIKDA).
Batch 1 (15th–19th June 2026) included Muhammad Mohid Abbasi, Subhan Ali, Daniyal Adnan, Ebadullah Arshad, M. Khubaib Saadi, Abdul Wasay, Muhammad Zayan, and Muhammad Sarim Malik.
Batch 2 (13th–17th July 2026) comprised Minhal Raza, Syed Shaheer Ahmed, and Aroon Kumar, while Ebadullah Arshad and Abdul Wasay returned as Senior Volunteers, mentoring and supporting the new participants throughout the program.
KIKDA is a leading non-profit healthcare institution dedicated to providing quality treatment and care to patients suffering from kidney-related illnesses. Through its dialysis services, outpatient consultations, diagnostic facilities, intensive care units, and surgical services, the organization plays a vital role in supporting underprivileged patients across the community.
During the five-day program, students gained valuable exposure to hospital operations and healthcare delivery. One of the most meaningful aspects of the experience was visiting the Dialysis Units, where they interacted with patients undergoing treatment. These interactions provided firsthand insight into the realities of living with chronic kidney disease and fostered a deeper understanding of the physical, emotional, psychological, and financial challenges faced by patients and their families.
Participants also took part in collaborative brainstorming sessions, proposing innovative ideas to enhance public awareness of KIKDA’s mission and strengthen community support for its healthcare initiatives. In addition, they received supervised practical training in blood pressure monitoring and blood sugar testing, giving them hands-on experience with essential healthcare procedures.
On the final day of each batch, students delivered group presentations reflecting on their observations and experiences. Their presentations highlighted the challenges of kidney disease and dialysis, the financial burden of long-term treatment, the emotional and psychological impact of chronic illness, and the importance of community engagement in promoting healthcare awareness and supporting patient welfare.
The program concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony, recognizing the participants for their enthusiasm, dedication, and active contribution throughout the volunteer experience.
The SVP Summer 2026 Volunteer Program at KIKDA proved to be a highly enriching initiative that combined experiential learning, community service, leadership, and personal development. It inspired students to develop empathy, social responsibility, and a greater appreciation for healthcare professionals and the invaluable services they provide to society.
