BVS First-Ever Virtual Science Olympiad 2021

The BVS Hoodbhoy Science Society conducted BVS’ first ever Virtual Science Olympiad on the 5th and 6th of March, 2021. It was a competition for students of Grades 9 to 11 and had a total participation of 25 teams. Teams from Islamabad as well as a special delegation from the USA took part. The Olympiad was hosted through the online application ‘Discord’ and comprised of 5 mind-boggling modules ranging from Biochemistry (Cyto-ChemiKaze), which challenged one’s common knowledge of micro-organisms and their practical knowledge through virtual labs, Physics (Schrodinger’s Web), which tested one’s common concepts of Physics and their ability to present innovative ideas on the spot, Mathematics (Pythagoras Pantheon) which challenged students’ quick thinking and their grasp of the questions in final rounds of ‘Jeopardy’, Computer Science and Programming skills (<deBug/>), to Cryptography (Caesar’s Colosseum) in which students had to go through ‘Éscape Rooms’ and decrypt the ciphers presented to them.

The BVS Science Olympiad Team worked under the supervision of Mr. Shahid (Patron) and Mr. Abdul Samad (Mentor), who was Director of this project. Students from Grades 11 and 10 contributed in making the event a success which included Saad Waheed Abbasi (Student Event Head and Module Head of Cyto-ChemiKaze), Ateeq-ur-Rehman (Module Head of Schrodinger’s Web), Muhammad Minhajuddin (Module Head of Caesar’s Colosseum), Hamza Muhammad Alam (Module Head of Pythagoras Pantheon and Assistant Module Head of Cyto-ChemiKaze), Syed Ali Mansoor (BVSSO Lead Desiner and Module Head of <deBug/>), Hunaid Hakeem (Assistant Module Head of <deBug/>), Nusaib Abdullah Siddique (Marketing Executive), IT Heads Abdullah Memon and Hadi Raza Rizwan, as well as Executive Members Malik Muzammil Arman, Mashood Samir, Zohair Kanani, Shahmir Khan, Syed Moazzam and Aman Imtiaz Meherally all worked hard and hosted the event from the school premises on the 5th and 6th of March, be it moderation of teams, to giving the teams a briefing of the round to come, they all performed their utmost best and made the event enjoyable for everyone participating.
