Dear Parents / Guardians

As we roll into the second term for the academic session we pray sincerely that the New Decade brings peace and prosperity not only for our beloved country but for each and every human being and the entire world at large. May God Almighty Shower His blessings on all.

On Saturday 10th August, 2019 inspite of rain forecasts, students and teachers came to school for Independence Day and displayed loyalty, patriotism and stood hand in hand with the Kashmiries and prayed for peace on our boarders for our beloved Pakistan.

Keeping up our tradition of entertaining the elders of our community on Parsi New Year the BVS School Band, this year went to the Parsi General Hospital on Khordad Saal on August 22nd, 2019 where each resident was gifted hand fans embellished by the students thus bringing smiles and joy on their faces.

As a part of the ongoing celebrations for the school 160 years the BVS School show caused an Art Craft and Design Exhibition on Aug 23rd and 24th , 2019. Artist Jimmy Engineer, who is the pride of Pakistan, inaugurated the exhibition on 23rd Aug, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. He was presented a commemorative plaque by the Chairman of the school.

Syed Imaad Ali of grade 9D stood 4th nationwide in the 2nd Shangrilla Scrabble Championship. Monis Hussain Khan of grade 7E also came in top 20. Altogether 5 virbaijitees took positions in the top 20.

Saad Khalid of 10B took the 3rd position in the 100 meters Hat race organized by the Karachi Athletic Association on Saturday Aug 24th, 2019.

FaizanAli of 11D and Muhammad Manqad Raza of 10C expressed their thoughts and honoured the martyrs and defenders of our beloved nation on a special Assembly on 6th September, 2019.

Wali Mohsin Khan of 11D secured the 3rd position in the Inter School Debate Competition held at D.M. School System on Saturday 7th September, 2019.

Muhammad Hussain of 11D and Asad Majeed of 9D eloquently spoke of the untiring efforts of Quaid e Azam on his death anniversary on 11th September, 2019 in the special assembly.

The Secondary Urdu Elocution was held on 13th Sep, 2019 where the students participated enthusiastically. There were two groups – Class 6th and 7th and 8th and 9th. Muhammad Ahmed of 6E stood First, Sarim Zahid stood second and Muhammad Ayaan Nasir of 7D and Hassan Sajid Hakeem of 6D stood third in the class 6th and 7th category. Maaz Faisal of 9D stood first, Zahid Shehzad of 9D stood second, Areeb Adnan of 9B and Azain Adnan of 9B stood 3rd in the class 8th and 9th category.

The Secondary English Project was held on 14th Sep, 2019. The students of grades 6 AKU and Cambridge learnt about making a newsletter and the difference between a newsletter and a newspaper. The students presented a colorful newsletter and planned events for 2019 – 2020 to celebrate the Schools’ 160th year. The students of grades 7 AKU and Cambridge had the topic of cracking the ‘L’ code i.e. to understand the importance of language and translation. The students of grades 8 AKU and Cambridge had the topic of Roller Coaster of Cause and Effect i.e. to understand how an effect of one event becomes the cause of another.

The theme for the Primary English project was 160 years of BVS Parsi High School. The students of different grades made scrap books, booklets in flower shape with events of school, college frames, a commemorative stamp honoring the school for completing 160years and creating their own school song with rhythm.

Teachers Resource Centre held voting for “MY FAVOURITE TEACHER” from grade IV to grade XI at BVS Parsi High School on September 19th, 2019. Ms. Zareesha Sheikh- Primary Teacher won the award.

The IKSC International Kangroo Science Contest was held on 26th September, 2019 in the school Auditorium where 116 students participated. Aryaan Khan and Mujtaba Rashid Hakeem of grades 8 received gold medal and blue toothspeaker. 6 other students received “The Bronze Medal and wireless earphone.

The topics for the Maths Project were Measurements, Bar Graph and Data Collection, Position and Movement, Geometric Quilt, Facts of Our School through Mathematical Expression, measuring on the Go, Overcoming Nash Equilibrium and Save the Museum, from grades 1 to 8 respectively.

The Annual Primary English Elocution was held on 17th Oct 2019.Muhammad Owaim of 2B stood first Nehan Hassar of 2C second, Shah Ibrahim Arham of 2B and Abdullah Shahid of 1C 3rd in Group A. Talha Imam of 3B stood 1st, Muhammad Bilal Asher of 4B and Muhammad Ahmed of 3A stood 3rd in group B. Syed Abdullah of 5A stood First, Syed Ali Salman of 5C stood second, Hassan Ahmed Siddiqui of 5A, S.M. Ahmed of 5B and Abdul Wasey of 5C stood 3rd in group C.

The Happy Home School System held an Inter School Art Competition on Oct 24th, 2019. Muhammad Bilal Zeeshan of grade 2B stood 1st in the Pre – Primary category. Syed Abdullah of 5A and Mujeeb ur Rehman of grade 8A also participated in the competition. Sadaf Arif, Art Co-ordinator stood 2nd in the teacher’s category.

The Scepter Sports Festival was held from Oct 25th – Oct 27th, 2019. BVS secured the third position in the table tens competing against O and A Level students.

The Annual Secondary English Elocution took place on Tuesday 29th Oct, 2019. There were 3 categories D classes 6-7, E class 8 and 9 & F grades 10. Muhammad Sarium Zahid of 6D stood First. Husnain Sajid Hakeem of 6C stood 2nd Rayyan Abid Shahid of 6D and Muhammad Ahmed of 6C stood 3rd in Group D. Muhammad Zaid Shehzad of 9D stood 1st, Syed Iftikhar Ali of 9C stood 2nd and Hassan ul Qadir of 9D and Safwan Ashraf of 9E stood 3rd in Group E. Syed Uneeb of 10E stood first, Saarim Ali Khan of 10C stood third in Group F.

The Alpha Sports Festival took place from Oct 29th to Nov 11th 2019 where “9” events were held. BVS Parsi High School clenched the first place trophy in the Futsul Tournament. BVS also stood 2nd in the Badminton and Arm Wrestling. It also scored the third position in the Table Tennis category.

 Two of our boys Syed Wali Mohsin Naqvi and Hamza Raza of 11D participated in the English and Urdu categories respectively in the Bilingual Declamation at City School on Oct 30th 2019.

The Anchorage School held its 13th Inter School Declamation Contest on Nov 02nd, 2019. Naaseh Sajid of 11D stood 1st Shaoor Tariq of 10D got the consolation prize and Muhammad Zaid Shehzad of 9D got the 3rd position.

The Annual Prize Distribution was held on Nov 3rd, 2019. Mr Khalid Mehmood Bhaimia was the chief guest. The academic result and other achievements of the school was shared by the Principal. The Teacher of the year was awarded to Ms. Uroosa Manzar.

The grand Electronics, Avionics and Robotics Spree – GEARS was held at Pakistan Air Force PAF – KIEI – PAF Base Korangi Creek on Nov 4th and 5th 2019. Two Teams of the Robotics Club won the First and Second Runner Prize with the shield and certificate awarded to First and Second Prize winners.

Syed Imaad Ali won the Regional Round and Aqib Irfan was the 1st winner runner up at the Dawn Spelling Bee Regional Round at the Arts Council on 9th Nov, 2019.

The Primary Sports Day was held on Nov 9th 2019 at the KPI. Ms. Irene Pearl Principal of Trinity Methodist Girls’ Higher Secondary School was the Chief Guest, the morning began with a colorful P E Display followed by clockwork races. The Gulbano Patel Primary Sports Trophy went to the Lancelot House with 129 points. Quaid e Azam House scored 123 points, Rezashah House 112 points and Soparivala House 96 points respectively.

The 1ST Urdu Declamation Contest was held on 12th Nov 2019. Syed Muhammad Ali of Ghulaman e Abbas took the First position. Ayesha Zafar Malik of the Mama Parsi Secondary Girls’ High School stood 2nd and Ammar Ali Ghulaman e Abbas tood Third, Alina Riyasat and Qisa Fatima got the appreciation prizes.

The first Inter School Science Competition was organized by BVS Hoodbhoy Science Society. It was held on 14th November 2019 in Khajurina Auditorium. The Science competition focused on the main theme “INNOVATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT” with three sub themes

*Agriculture and food security.

*Solution to environmental issues and concerns.

*Energy resources and conservation.

            Each school was allowed to choose any two sub themes from the above and were asked to make working models. 22 schools were registered along with their 37 models for the competition. All the participating schools were instructed to set up or show case their projects/models in the auditorium on 13th November 2019 one day before the science competition. BVS students also show cased 10 models/projects however as hosts they were not part of the judgment. PECHS Girls School was adjudged the winner. The second and the third prize went to Dawood Public School and Habib Girls School respectively.

Syed Ahfnaf Raza got the appreciation prize in an Inter School Speech Contest at Ghulaman e Abbas School on Friday Nov 15th, 2019.

The Karachi Model United Nations Conference was held on 15th Nov to 17th Nov, 2019 at Trinity Degree Girls’ College 30 students of BVS were a part of the conference.

Syed Imaad Ali of grade 9D won the Junior World Scrabble Championship held at Torquary, England on Nov 16th – Nov 18th, 2019. He is the World Champion under 21 age category. Mirza Taha Hasan (previous gr de 5B) has become the World Champion of the Under 10Age Category.

Ms. Shabana Naveed got the 1st Prize at Korangi Academy Aafaq Foundation in an Urdu Debate Competition.

The Primary Urdu Elocution took place on Dec 1st 2019. Syed Maaz Shah Hussain of 1C stood 1st, Muhammad Owaim of 2B stood second, Muhammad Ibrahim of 2C 3rd from Group A. Abdul Bari stood first. Muhammad Ahmed Raza of 3C stood second and Shaheer Khan of 4B stood 3rd in Group B. Syed Ali Salman of 5C, Syed Muhammad Ahmed of 5B stood second and Sudes Salahuddin of 5A stood 3rd in Group C.

On Dec 4th the students of grade 4 visited the English Biscuit Factory where the saw the process of Biscuit manufacturing.

 The students of grade 6 went to Moenjo Daro, Ranikot Fort and the beautiful Gorak Hills on Dec 06th, 2019. Where they learnt about our ancient civilizations and had great fun.

An Inter School Chess Tournament was held at NJV Govt Higher Secondary School on 7th Dec, 2019. Hadi Raza of 10D became the champion. Shahmir Khan of 10E stood second in the tournament. Alyaan Faisal of 10E stood 4th. Aarib Rehman 7E stood 3rd in the DG Rangers (Sindh) Shukria Jinnah Gala in collaboration with Sindh Chess Association organized Karachi Chess Championship 2019 at Karachi Club Annex.

The students participated in the Digital Evangelist to use their logical mind. Mian Afzal Saeed of grade 9C won the 3rd prize in overall Pakistan.

On Dec 10th, 2019 the students of grade 5 visited the Pakistan Beverages Limited Factory.

The students of grade 1 and 2 went to the Zoological Garden on 11th Dec 2019 to study the habitats of different living creatures and had a great time.

The students of grade 3 showed their gratitude to their Van driver uncles by going to Frere Hall to enjoy the beautiful morning on Dec 12th, 2019. They treated the Van drives with a hearty breakfast and warm mufflers. They also went to the National Museum to learn about the cultural heritage of our country.

A Grand Carnival was organized by the past scouts to celebrate 160 years of the school on Sunday 15th December,2019. The Carnival was inaugurated at 9:00 a.m. by Akber Shah, the school’s guard for the last 22 years. There were stalls put up by the young students of the school for food and games. There were professional stalls put up by the franchise.

There was an animal show too.

The Carnival finished at 9:00 p.m. after which two popular rock bands NUTS & BOLTS and BAYAAN performed till 1:00 a.m. The rock bands and the sponsors of the Carnival were given commemorative plaques.

To celebrate the 160 years of the school the BVS Alumni had a gathering of 600 past Virbaijeeites on Sunday 22nd December, 2019 in the school grounds. The programme started at 6:30 where Virbaijeeites registered themselves and walked around the school, met up with their friends, sat at the canteen for the nostalgic samosas and patties and took pictures at the photo booth.

At 7:30 p.m. past Virbaijeeites Mr. Yazdi Haveliwala, graduate of 1976 commenced the evening’s function

Mr. Cyrus Khursigara class of 1981 delivered the welcome address.

Sudais Salahuddin of grade 5-A recited a wonderful poem in Urdu called USTAD-I- MOHTARRUM.

Mrs. Mehroo Khambatta a past teacher who had taught in BVS for more than 40 years was asked to come on stage and do the honors of giving away gifts and flowers to the honored teachers of the that day. She honored Mr. Maktoob Siddique who served the school for 48 years as a teacher. She gave away mementoes to Mrs. Naseha Zaib who has served the school as a teacher for 31 years and Mrs. Shahida Afaq who has taught for 29 years.

After which Justice Salahuddin Mirza class of 1950 was invited up on stage to honor and gave away gift and flowers to Mr. Akber Shah who worked as a security guard for 22 years.

Mr. Bhaimia class of 1968 did the honors of giving away gift and flowers to Mr. Fakira Manjee and Mr. Peer Muhammad Diwan class of 1963 gave away gift and flowers to Mr. Caijiton Fernandes for working as dedicated caretakers for the school.

Mrs. Diana Randeria headmistress Secondary Section and Mrs. Mehernaz Bharucha, Headmistress Cambridge Section assisted in this process.

The past teachers who were specially invited to the function; Mrs. Mehroo Khambatta, Mrs. Maya Krishanlal, Mrs. Roshan Unwala and Mrs. Frenny Chinoy, were given a bouquet by the Principal Mrs. Kermin Parakh. She also presented bouquets to Mr. Adarbad Gati class of 1944, Mr. Nauzer Kheswalla class of 1946 and Mr.  Jimmy Makujina, class of 1950.

Syed Abdullah of 5-A then presented his poem in English, written by him for his English Project in school, called TOWARDS THAT BEST LIGHT.

A 40 minutes’ video presentation was shown to the guests where to see the progress of the school in the last 10 years called 160 YEARS AND SURGING FORWARDS. It was greatly lauded by all present.

The function concluded at 9:30 p.m. followed by a hot bowl of soup and a sumptuous dinner followed by tea, coffee and mingled with the teachers, caretaker staff and took memorable pictures.

It was an indeed memorable evening for all.

The students of BVS Parsi High School have created the Thunberg Society where awareness is created on environmental issues and lead away in creating greener and healthier environment.

Hoping to meet new challenges in the coming term and facing them with tenacity and gist, me, the BVS will rise to the occasion.
